A Joycean Evening

Begin your Joycean celebrations on Thursday 13th June at 19.30, in Dalkey Castle & Heritage Centre.

Celebrate the more light hearted elements of Joyce’s works by watching a team of professional actors perform enlightening & entertaining extracts from Ulysses, Dubliners and A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man.

Sing along with professional singers such as Simon Morgan & Donna Malone, accompanied by Josh Johnston, in songs that James Joyce sang or which feature in his works.

Runs for approximately 2 1/2hrs. Refreshments will be served. Book your tickets online for €22.95.

Dalkey Joycean Guided Walk & Schoolroom Scene

Join us on Bloomsday, 16th June at 15:30, for a guided Joycean walk where you will discover the surprising Dalkey connections with James Joyce. The schoolroom in which the Nestor episode from Ulysses is set is the Clifton School where Joyce himself taught, on Dalkey Avenue.

Joyce’s father, John Stanislaus, lived in Dalkey, having left Cork. He kept a boat in Coliemore and competed in the Dalkey Regatta. Savour the setting at the Clifton School where “[o]n his wise shoulders through the checkerwork of leaves the sun flung spangles, dancing coins.”

The event also features the Nestor Episode from Ulysses brought to life before your eyes in a memorable dramatisation in the Castle.

Directions & Transport

Dalkey is on some of the most stunning coastline, with a mountainous backdrop, just south of Dublin City Centre, en route to Co. Wicklow.

Aside from by car, the quickest way to reach the Castle is by DART. The DART journey is a relaxing experience travelling along the beautiful coastline with magnificent sea views. Dalkey is approx. 30 minutes from Dublin's Connolly, Tara or Pearse stations (travelling south). Turn right on exiting Dalkey train station.

Dalkey is on the Aircoach route to/from Dublin Airport. From Dublin City Centre, a number of local bus options are also available. Paid parking and coach parking are available nearby.
