The "jack of all trades" (pharmacist, dentist, barber, etc.) was informative, but he was also hilarious, and the interaction was just perfect. I loved being called Lady Julia! The archer and head cook were perfect for their parts - informative, but also entertaining. I loved everything about this castle tour!!!

The staff are extremely kind and helpful, the tours and events fascinating and the connection to many writers and musicians from the area makes everything even more fabulous.   Best tour in memory. Lots of laughter! - My sister and I stumbled upon this enticing castle while exploring Kalkey. After perusing the other storage fort across the street, we took the most fun tour I can remember. Well worth the fee! The tour was about an hour. The museum room was laid out in a chronological timeline which made it very easy to understand. It was clean and light and a very pleasant atmosphere. The tour crowd was only five people—and the interaction with staff was so hilarious! The actors that dressed in costume and did demonstrations and bantered with us were fabulous, and my cheeks hurt from laughing so hard.
This tour is recommended for: Solo visitors; families; kids young and old! The only thing to remember is that to go everywhere, to all the floors, you must hike some steep stairs, so accessibility for disabled is good on the ground floor but limited elsewhere.
Also, the gift shop is stocked with really good items: woolens, handmade soaps, etc.
