A Joycean Evening – Monday 15th June, 7.30pm at Dalkey Castle
Begin your Bloomsday celebrations in style with an uplifting evening of theatre and music. A talented cast will perform witty and moving extracts from Ulysses, Dubliners, and A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, revealing Joyce’s humour and humanity. Baritone Simon Morgan, accompanied by Josh Johnston, will perform Joycean songs.

Back by public demand we are delighted to have Sinéad Murphy and Darina Gallagher with us again in 2026. They will perform Songs of Joyce: a toe-tapping musical journey through sea shanties, street ballads, and music hall gems.

Celebrate Bloomsday with a unique experience at Dalkey Castle! Enjoy a live performance of the schoolroom scene from the Nestor episode of Ulysses, featuring Stephen Dedalus and the stern Mr Deasy. Explore Joyce’s fascinating connections to Dalkey with an expert guide, Joe Dunne and step onto the location where Joyce once taught and the scene is set. Feel the magic of literature come alive where “the sun flung spangles, dancing coins.”

Directions & Transport

Dalkey is on some of the most stunning coastline, with a mountainous backdrop, just south of Dublin City Centre, en route to Co. Wicklow.

Aside from by car, the quickest way to reach the Castle is by train (DART). The DART journey is a relaxing experience travelling along the beautiful coastline with magnificent sea views. Dalkey is approx. 30 minutes from Dublin's Connolly, Tara or Pearse stations (travelling south). Turn right on exiting Dalkey train station.

Dalkey is on the Aircoach route to/from Dublin Airport. From Dublin City Centre, a number of local bus options are also available. Paid parking and coach parking are available nearby.
