A Joycean Evening – Thursday 12th June, 7.30pm at Dalkey Castle
Kick off your Bloomsday celebrations with an uplifting evening of theatre and music at Dalkey Castle. A talented cast will perform witty, moving extracts from Ulysses, Dubliners, and A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, showcasing Joyce’s lighter side. Baritone, Simon Morgan, accompanied by Josh Johnston, will perform ‘Joycean’ songs.

New for 2025! Enjoy Songs of Joyce — a lively musical journey through sea shanties, street ballads, and music hall favourites, performed with flair by Sinéad Murphy and Darina Gallagher.

Step into Joyce’s world on Bloomsday with a guided walk through Dalkey, uncovering the town’s surprising links to James Joyce. Discover where he once taught – the Clifton School on Dalkey Avenue – the very setting of the Nestor episode in Ulysses.

As you stroll beneath leafy canopies, you’ll understand the scene where “the sun flung spangles, dancing coins.”

This special event includes a captivating dramatisation of the schoolroom scene from Ulysses, performed in Dalkey Castle, bringing the Nestor episode to life.

Directions & Transport

Dalkey is on some of the most stunning coastline, with a mountainous backdrop, just south of Dublin City Centre, en route to Co. Wicklow.

Aside from by car, the quickest way to reach the Castle is by DART. The DART journey is a relaxing experience travelling along the beautiful coastline with magnificent sea views. Dalkey is approx. 30 minutes from Dublin's Connolly, Tara or Pearse stations (travelling south). Turn right on exiting Dalkey train station.

Dalkey is on the Aircoach route to/from Dublin Airport. From Dublin City Centre, a number of local bus options are also available. Paid parking and coach parking are available nearby.
