In the rich tapestry of Irish culture, the seanachaí (storyteller in Gaelic) holds a special place. These storytellers are the guardians of tradition, tasked with preserving & sharing captivating tales, songs & folklore that have been passed down through generations, in an oral tradition.

In a time before the written word was commonplace, these storytellers were the keepers of knowledge and history, captivating audiences with tales of heroes, legends, and local lore. Through their storytelling, they passed down the values, beliefs, and wisdom of the Irish people, ensuring that no generation would forget their heritage.

The seanachaí is not merely a narrator; they are masterful storytellers. Their performances are a blend of vivid imagination, rhythmic language, and a deep connection to their material. Each story is carefully crafted and delivered with a unique style that captures the essence of the narrative. The seanachaí’s ability to transport their listeners to another time and place is a testament to their artistry.

Having been welcomed with a traditional toast, relax and gather by twilight in the cosy private setting of the castle living quarters, and embrace Ireland’s rich storytelling history with our Seanchaí, as they recall Irish lore, myths & legends & explain how placenames make more sense if you understand them as Gaeilge (in Irish) and reveal the landscape. You will be transported into another world of the imagination with wonderful insights and mystical tales of Dalkey & Irish life in times past.

Continue your evening with some toe tapping as you get involved learning some basic Irish set dancing. Hopefully as much fun as the “Irish Party in Third Class” scene from “Titanic” without the tragic ending!
